5456 Aluminum

Description

This is an alloy of aluminum and magnesium with good strength. It does not respond to hardening by heat treatment. The alloy is good for structural use because of its good weldability.

Applications

Alloy 5454 is widely used in the manufacture of chemical storage tanks, automotive wheels and in particular those applications that may be subject to temperatures in excess of 150ºF. Alloy 5456 was developed as a filler alloy for Alloy 5454. Also commonly used in the manufacture of high strength welded structures, pressure vessels, marine applications, and in storage tanks.
