A-2, A-6, A-7, A-10 Air-Hardening Tool Steels

Description

A-2 A common general purpose tool steel; it is the most commonly used variety of air-hardening steel. It is commonly used for blanking and forming punches, trimming dies, thread rolling dies, and injection molding dies.

A-6 This type of tool steel air-hardens at a relatively low temperature (approximately the same temperature as oil-hardening types) and is dimensionally stable. Therefore it is commonly used for dies, forming tools, and gauges that do not require extreme wear resistance but do need high stability.

A-7 Is a high carbon, high vanadium tool steel possessing extremely high wear resistance. It possesses more wear resistance than type D2 but it also has less toughness. Type A-7 steel is employed when parts must withstand sever abrasion or when tooling for maximum production runs

A-10 This grade contains a uniform distribution of graphite particles to increase machinability and provide self-lubricating properties. It is commonly used for gauges, arbors, shears, and punches.

Applications

A-2 Large blanking dies, Thread roller dies, Long punches, Rolls, Master hubs, Trimming dies, Forming dies, Precision tools, Gauges, Coining dies

A-6 cold forming, blanking and bending dies, forming rolls, drill bushings, knurling tools, master dies and gages.

A-7 cold forming, blanking and bending dies, forming rolls, drill bushings, knurling tools, master dies and gages.

A-10 cold forming, blanking and bending dies, forming rolls, drill bushings, knurling tools, master dies and gages
